Are suspended ceilings hard to install?
Are they expensive?
It's for the laundry area of my basement. The rest of the basement is finished and the laundry room is behind bifold doors. The room looks great until you go to do laundry! There are exposed pipes above and I was thinking a suspended ceiling will allow for access to them, if that ever becomes necessary.
What about fiberglass panels?
Answer: The task is not especially hard.. provided you have some experience with a set of tin snips, level, assorted fastners, etc...
The parts required is dependent upon the base you are attaching to. This being the basement, if one of the walls is unfinished, you will have to use some type of masonry anchor at the perimeter angle. The perimeter angle is used to set the edge of your ceiling panel. The other main parts of the grid system are the commons and the fillers. Because of the weight of some ACT (accoustic ceiling tile) pieces, even some short spans may need to be suspended by wires. Do not utilize the piping systems for suspension of the grid work!
With respect to the plumbing pipes above, should they not be insulated, condesation may appear and would recommend that you use a moisture retardant type ceiling tile.
