What type of paint is usually used on ceilings in bathrooms?
I had a shower head that sprayed a small stream straight up and didn't realize it until the ceiling was sort of messed up (just the paint, the drywall was ok). What kind of paint or material is commonly used on ceilings that produces the "popcorn" effect? What are good brands of said materials? How is it applied?
Answer: The popcorn effect you are talking about is probably the finish on the ceiling. Mine was like that too and it got a little wet and started to fall in a couple of small spots. I lightly misted my ceiling with water and scraped all that off with a putty knife. Finally I had a smooth ceiling. Then I painted it with a primer, I used Kilz. I believe it was some sort of anti fungal primer. Then I painted it with regular semi gloss wall paint. It has been perfect since then. I asked the people at the store about ceiling paint and they said the main difference was that it is thicker so it doesn't drip as much. Also since I was using an anti fungal primer i really didn't need to worry about the anti fungal paint too.
